Galloway on Channel4s Big Brother

A publicity stunt too far?

George Galloway - Galloway on C4 A publicity stunt too far?

On 6th January George Galloway enters the UK reality TV series "Celebrity Big Brother" as a contestant. The shows "highlights" are broadcasted nightly on the UKs "Channel Four" terrestial network, with almost continous coverage availible to satellite viewers.

Whilst Galloways record of poor attendance means that his appearance will represent the first time many of his constituents have had chance to see him since his election, the MPs decision to waste up to three weeks of taxpayers money as a contestant on a trivial game show has angered almost every section of the community.

"Back to work George"

Whilst we at HangGalloway.co.uk support the "get him back to work" campaign, that has a groovy javascript that counts how long Galloway has been in the house, and how much that has cost the taxpayer, I would disagree with their figures.

Their figure only relates to Galloways wages. This is a common mistake. When someone is off work the cost to their employer (us in this case) is their wages PLUS the value of the work they would have done had they not been absent. The "get him back to work" campaign assumes that George Galloway has no value whenever he is (rarely it seems) present in the house.

On second thoughts I might have to agree with that...

Grassroots discontent

George Galloway - Galloway on C4 Grassroots discontent

Since entering the show, and to an extent so far only guessed at by Galloway, the MP has been lambasted by several of his own grassroot supporters. A leaked admission from the Respect Party admitted that the move would cause "some damage" to the anti-war party. The Socialst Worker Party has called the decision a "mistake". Islamic fundamentalist groups have decried his appearance and issued a fatwa against him. Even Ian McKay, Galloways long time buddy (who also received oil for food money), has called Galloways appearance a "worst case scenario".
