Legal

Why do I need a legal page anyway

Good question.

But browse around the site a while and you'll notice that Mr. Galloways prefered method of silencing his detractors is with debate by litigation. And whilst, as the name of the site suggests, I would rejoyce at seeing Mr Galloway in court, I would much rather that he was the one in the dock rather than the one bringing proceedings.

Now I have no legal training, but whilst reading up on libel law around the Galloway v. Telegraph adjudication I found the following gems with which, ironically, I hope to cover myself.

[T]he defence of comment on a matter of public interest.

"This defence is available to everyone [...] the freedom of expression protected by this defence has long been regarded by the common law as a basic right, long before the emergence of human rights conventions [...] the basis of our public life is that the crank, the enthusiast, may say what he honestly thinks as much as the reasonable person who sits on a jury. The true test is whether the opinion, however exaggerated, obstinate or prejudiced, was honestly held by the person expressing it."

Disclaimer

And so, pursuant to an argument of defence of comment on a matter of public interest, I hereby certify that any views expressed on this site are solely the honestly held opinions of the author as expressed on a matter of public interest.

To date this argument seems to have meant that I remain un-sued.

Copyright

The bulk of the content here has simply been copied and pasted from sites spidered by Google News. I tend to stick to the more credible media outlets such as The Times, The Scotsman, The Telegraph and Reuters.

I do not claim any sort of copyright over the text included in this site, and apologise for not attributing individual articles properly, but I started this project off just copying and pasting reports into a notepad so I don't remember where individual articles came from.
